Adele

Adele ~ 2 – 3 yr old female Chinese Crested ~ $400

Hello everyone, I’d like to introduce you to Adele, the little Chinese Crested with the BIG attitude!  This young lady is the funniest, sassiest dog you’ll ever meet.  She loves to wear fabulous coats to keep herself warm, and has quite an impressive wardrobe to feed this habit.  Adele walks beautifully on the lead, nice and calm… until you turn around to go home!  Then she’s off at a run, eager to get home and do her favourite thing in the whole world – snuggle on your lap beside the heater, nibbling on your fingers until you give her a scratch under the chin.  She also does that famous Crestie dance, rubbing and wriggling and shaking her booty against all of the furniture.  She likes to sit on the back of the couch instead of the dog bed, and has taught her foster brother how to do it too!  She is the biggest cuddle bug in the whole world, and will be fiercely loyal and attached to her forever family – get ready to never sleep or use the bathroom alone ever again, because in typical Chinese Crested fashion, Adele will always be right there beside you.

Adele is an absolutely beautiful dog (her foster mum is hanging pictures of her on the wall, she is THAT gorgeous), but she does have a specific beauty routine to ensure she keeps herself looking this flawless.  Her skin is massaged with an Alpha Keri oil at least once a week to keep it smooth and healthy, as this breed is susceptible to dry skin and blackheads if not managed correctly.  She can be bathed in sensitive skin shampoo and conditioner, and loves having her head and tail brushed afterwards.  The gene that causes hairlessness in Chinese Crested dogs can also cause dental issues, so keeping on top of nice clean teeth is very important to Adele.  Her previous owners loved her a little bit too much, and as a result she came to GAR incredibly obese.  She is slimming down beautifully but will need a sensible good quality diet and portion control, plus exercise, to ensure she stays trim and terrific.  Finally, her skin is incredibly sensitive – Adele CANNOT be an outside dog.  She is extremely intolerant of the cold and should always have a coat on outside, even just to go to the toilet, or inside if there is no heating on.  She sunburns incredibly easily, so on warmer days she needs to be wearing sunscreen and a thin shirt to protect her skin – however she loves the sunshine and is very tolerant of heat.

Adele is toilet trained, and may learn to use a doggy door, however due to her sensitivity to the weather, sometimes she won’t take herself outside to do her business if it’s too cold!  So you may have to accompany her on some trips.  She must be an indoor dog.  She is best suited to a mature home or one with older children as she is a bit delicate, lacking the protective layer of fur most dogs have.  She would love to have a doggy brother or sister her size to play with, or someone home with her most of the time, as she adores company.  Experience with hairless breeds would be beneficial but not essential – you will learn a lot from Adele, your vet and fellow hairless dog owners.  All you need is an open mind and commitment to Adele’s beauty!
